FAQ: Frequently asked questions

Waze application

On which platforms is Waze available? iOS and Android.

Where can I get help with the application? Through the official Google help pages (in English) or on the Swiss community forum.

Map editor (WME)

Who can edit the map? Anyone with a Waze account and a valid email address can access the Waze Map Editor.

Which areas can I edit? The areas where you have driven with Waze over the last 90 days. Access rights expire if you do not drive on the road again within that period.

How does the level system work?

LevelEditing radiusMinimum editsAttribution
L11.6 kmnoneAutomatic
L23.2 km3,000Automatic
L34.8 km25,000Automatic
L46.4 km100,000Staff approval + local champions
L56.4 km250,000Staff approval + local champions
L66.4 km500,000Staff approval + local champions

Note

The thresholds are indicative minimums. Levels L4 to L6 are not earned by edit count alone: attribution follows community criteria detailed in How to reach each level. An editor who is particularly active in the community may be proposed for an early promotion: script development, helping other editors, participation in mapraids and events.

How do I edit a segment locked at a higher level? You cannot edit it directly. Request the unlock through the community forum. Once approved, you can make the change.

Swiss specifics (drivers)

Driver-side questions (vignette and motorways, disabled speed cameras, fuel prices, reporting closures) are grouped together in the drivers' FAQ to avoid duplication.

Useful reminder for editors: a UR reporting an incorrect fuel price must be closed as "technically impossible to fix by the editor": only drivers within 500 m of the station can update the price from the application.
