Turn restrictions

Turn restrictions tell Waze which movements are allowed or prohibited at a junction. They have a direct impact on route calculation.

Viewing restrictions

Select a segment to display the turn arrows at each end:

  • Green arrow = turn allowed
  • Red arrow = turn prohibited
  • No arrow = no restriction recorded (allowed by default)

Click an arrow to toggle between allowed and prohibited.

Basic rules

  • Always check the actual signage (signs, road markings) before setting a restriction
  • A legal but dangerous turn is not a sufficient reason to restrict it
  • One-way streets imply automatic restrictions in the blocked direction

Time-based restrictions

Some turns are prohibited only at certain times or on certain days (e.g.: no left turn during rush hour). To set them:

  1. Select the relevant turn arrow
  2. Click the clock icon that appears
  3. Define the days and time ranges
  4. Save with Ctrl+S

Restrictions by vehicle type

You can restrict a turn only for certain vehicle types (trucks, motorcycles, etc.) by clicking "Edit types" in the restriction panel.

U-turns

U-turns are handled as turn restrictions on the same segment. Only allow a U-turn when:

  • The maneuver creates an actual dead end
  • It is legal and signposted
