Editor roles
Beyond the editor level, the Swiss Waze community relies on specific roles that grant extended editing rights.
Area Manager (AM)
An Area Manager manages a defined geographic area and can edit the map there without having physically driven on every road, within the limit of their lock level.
Requirements to apply
- At least 500 significant edits
- Good knowledge of Swiss editing rules
- Active participation in the forum (several contributions)
- Registered for at least one month
Process
- Open the WME and center the map on the desired area
- Create one or more permalinks delimiting the requested area
- Contact a Country Manager via the forum with these links
- A Country Manager gets in touch within 24 hours
The request can also be submitted via the official Area Manager request form: log in with your Waze/WME account and select "Area Manager - self managed countries". Each request is reviewed by the Swiss Champs before approval.
A list of pre-established polygons (areas) by canton is available to delimit the requested area.
Important
Area Managers must edit the map at least once every 90 days. After this period, AM rights are automatically revoked.
State Manager (SM)
A State Manager has full editing rights in the assigned canton, subject to the same locking rules.
MTE Marshal (RTC State Manager)
A role specific to Switzerland (unique in this country), also known as SM RTC: coordinating major traffic events (MTEs) and managing real-time closures (RTCs), often at the cantonal scale. This role grants no map-editing permissions, it covers the handling of real-time closures only. See Road closures for details on the procedures.
The request is made via the "MTE Marshal" form in the community requests hub (login required) and is also reviewed by the Swiss Champs.
Country Manager (CM)
Country Managers provide support at the national level, enforce the rules and lead the community. They are the ones who grant AM and SM status.
